KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was present at a royal reception at Istana Negara on Saturday, Jan 20, prior to the end of his term as head of state.
Also in attendance was Her Majesty, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
This grand event began at 3 pm and saw 2,500 guests, including Cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, and foreign mission leaders.
The distinguished guests present included Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
Former prime ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob were also part of the event.
The guests were treated to a wonderful orchestral performance by Yayasan Saad College from Melaka.
The Royal couple also spent almost an hour mixing and taking pictures with the guests at the event.
Other events planned in conjunction with the end of His Majesty’s term include the State Banquet on Saturday, Jan 27.
Al-Sultan Abdullah’s term as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong will come to an end on Jan 30, and the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar will start his term as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a five-year tenure, commencing from Jan 31. – Bernama
