KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the threats made against Lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid.
City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid stated on Sunday (Feb 11) that the lawyer had filed three reports regarding the death threats she received following the Federal Court’s decision to nullify 16 provisions in Kelantan’s syariah criminal laws.
“One investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney General’s office for further instruction while investigations are still open for the remaining two.
“The police have requested assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify account owners of the social media pages involved,” he said.
Police are conducting ongoing investigations, including for Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication under Section 507 of the Penal Code.
Comm Allaudeen urged everyone to refrain from making threats on social media, warning that action would be taken against those who chose to do so.
