The top cop of the country, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, has stated that the police will not allow Klang to be compared to Colombia due to criminal activities.

He mentioned that a series of operations have been conducted in Klang in the past few weeks with the aim of erasing the negative perception linking Klang to Colombia.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Pandamaran Market on Sunday, he addressed the issue of negative reports associating Klang with Colombia, especially after a video of a robbery went viral.

He clarified that while this was an isolated incident, certain news portals sensationalized the story with headlines like “Klang bandar di Colombia”. He also stated that operations were carried out targeting drugs, migrant smuggling, and other criminal activities in Klang.

Razarudin revealed that this year, Gombak had the highest recorded crime rate, followed by Petaling Jaya and then Klang Selatan. In comparison, last year’s crime rate was highest in Gombak, followed by Kajang, Petaling Jaya, and Klang Selatan.

He also addressed comments made by Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, clarifying that he was simply quoting media reports and never made a direct comparison between Klang and Colombia. He emphasized that Klang is a royal city and should not be compared to a city in Colombia.

During a townhall session at the Hokkien Association building in Klang, Comm Mohd Shuhaily expressed sadness over Klang being compared to a city in Colombia and pointed out the increasing crime rate in the area. He also raised concerns about housing and commercial projects affecting security.

In response to a question, he mentioned that MPs should not complain about police issuing fines for illegally parked vehicles in high-density areas. This statement was met with opposition from Klang MP V. Ganabatirau, who argued that such matters were not under the purview of lawmakers.
