SHAH ALAM: Voters in Kota Anggerik here want efficient public transportation, says PAS candidate Kota Anggerik Mohamed Sukri Omar.
“The people I met want a well-running arrangement of buses. With the cost of living going up, many want to opt for public transport,” said the father of two.
He added that connectivity and the timing of buses were the main complaints
“I am all for public transportation that will get people to where they need to go with convenience and safety. Based on the people’s voice, there is a need to improve the bus transit experience,” he said.
Sukri added that there is a need to improve bus routes to remove any overlap and provide reliable high-frequency services to ensure that coverage across Kota Anggerik is in line with demand.
“We also need electric buses that will decrease the carbon footprint. Good public transport will encourage domestic tourism in the area by driving tourists into and around Shah Alam, which will bring new revenue streams,” he added.
Other areas that I plan to look into are maintenance of roads, expansion of road networks and the adoption of a smart traffic management network as we aim to improve traffic flow and road safety for all citizens.
“We also need to improve the collection of domestic waste, improvement of basic amenities like street lights to ensure these services meet the needs of the rapidly growing community. Create public pocket parks to foster community harmony where it brings about social interaction,” he said.
Sukri added as Selangor’s population ages, there is a crucial need to create green open spaces and implement age-friendly urban designs to help people with dementia to feel included.
“I plan to establish open relationships with residents through dialogues, community meetings, and feedback mechanisms to ensure that efforts made reflect the aspirations and needs of every rate-payer,” he said.
Kota Anggerik was won by incumbent Najwan Halimi in 2018 with a 17,004-vote majority.
In the 2023 state elections, Kota Anggerik sees a three-cornered fight between Mohamed Sukri, who will be up against Najwan (Pakatan-PKR) and lawyer Azad Akbar Khan (Muda).
