MOSCOW (Reuters) – The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, stated on Thursday that the United States’ plan to send funds seized from Russian businesspeople, who have been targeted by sanctions, to Ukraine is considered illegal. Peskov further stated that any actions taken in this regard will be contested.
In a visit to Kyiv on Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that $5.4 million, which had been seized from sanctioned Russian oligarchs, will be transferred to Ukraine to support its military veterans.
Responding to this, Peskov told reporters, “This is hard to imagine and it goes against everything in international law and those countries’ national law. But as soon as an opportunity presents itself, we will defend our rights.”
Peskov also highlighted that some Russian entrepreneurs have already obtained court rulings in European countries, confirming the illegality of such transfers.
“Not a single case of such illegal retention will be left unattended,” Peskov emphasized.
