KUCHING: Federal Territories’ Kristian Tung stamped his authority in the long distance events after winning the boys’ 5,000m final in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) at the Sarawak Stadium in Petra Jaya on Thursday (Aug 22).

The 20-year-old Longborough University student powered ahead of his opponents in the 5,000m by clocking a time of 15:20.50, seven seconds faster than second and third-placed Perakians – Shawn Roshan Singh (15.27.37) and Mohd Farooq Mohd Zubair Kanan (15:30.45).

With the win, Kristian completes his collection of long distance races in Sukma, after bagging the 10,000m and 1,500m golds on Monday.

It’s a huge accomplishment for the former cross-country runner as it was his first time running track events in a tournament.

In the boys’ 10,000 walk, Penang’s Sriven Tan took the gold with a time of 48:18.11, while his teammate Aiman Haikal Sahrudin took silver with a time of 48:23.69. Bronze was taken by Federal Territories Khor Jing Hong (48:54.29).
