According to state news agency (KUNA), Kuwait’s interior ministry recently disrupted a plot by a terrorist cell to target Shi’ite Muslim places of worship.
KUNA reported that security forces closely observed the movements of the cell and apprehended three individuals identified as members of a terrorist group. The report did not provide further specifics, other than noting that the individuals were Arabs.
In 2015, Kuwait experienced its deadliest terrorist attack in many years, as a Saudi suicide bomber detonated explosives inside a crowded Shi’ite mosque, resulting in the deaths of 27 individuals. This incident was claimed by Islamic State.
