AMPANG JAYA: Authorities are covering the exposed hillside with a large sheet following the landslide at Taman Melawati, Ampang to prevent further erosion, say police.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said sheet measures 30mx20m and will be used after it was found there was still soil movement caused by continuous rain, which could cause further collapse.
“Authorities will deploy the sheet completely by today regardless if it continues to rain or not,” he said in a press conference here on Tuesday (Oct 15).
Mohd Azam also said that 80% of the debris from the earlier landslide had been cleared so far, including an overturned guardhouse.
He said affected residents could only collect their belongings or vehicles after all the debris is cleared.
“We have identified 33 residents from 11 families living in 16 houses affected by the landslide.
“Only two families have chosen to live in the temporary disaster evacuation centre at the nearby multi-purpose hall in Jalan E5 Taman Melawati,” he said.
He added that other government agencies would be at the site on Wednesday (Oct 16) to perform further analysis.
