A photograph of a RM50 note has become popular on social networking sites as a man attempts to return it to its original owner.
There was a message written in Bahasa Malaysia on the note, which roughly translated to “last money received from dad” along with the date “11/5/20” and the words “Al-fatihah”.
Facebook user Tuah Lim shared the photo, claiming that the note was obtained from an ATM in Kuantan, Pahang. He mentioned in his post, “maybe the original owner wants this money back”.
Posted on Feb 20, the post has gone viral with over 11,000 shares and 300 comments from people who expressed that they were moved by the message on the note.
In an interview with local media, Lim, whose real name is Mohd Azfarul Zainol Akmar, stated that numerous individuals have contacted him since the post went viral, claiming to be the original owner of the note.
“A few people have contacted me claiming that the note is theirs, but I have to be cautious in order to identify the genuine owner,” he said in the report.
He added that despite the note’s value being only RM50, he is having difficulty in pinpointing the true owner and is seeking the advice of friends to help him make a decision.
He promised in the report to hold onto the note until the rightful owner is identified.
