KUALA LUMPUR: Learning about Islamic civilisation and its universal values is essential, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.During a visit with other MCA leaders to the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, the MCA president mentioned that the museum houses many meticulously preserved artefacts of significant artistic, historical and civilisational value.

“As the saying goes, ‘familiarity breeds affection’,” he said.

“Delving into and understanding this civilisation allows us to deepen and broaden our acceptance of each other as Malaysians of diverse religions, races, and cultures,” he said in a social media post on Friday.

Dr Wee noted that non-Muslim communities could gain clearer insights into the lifestyle, art, and culture of the Islamic community through this museum visit.

“I recommend that all Malaysians, especially leaders and members of the MCA, visit the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia here in Kuala Lumpur.

“I am confident that everyone will leave with valuable experiences and knowledge.

“At this time, we are in a new, dynamic, multipolar world where diverse civilisations are emerging, especially after 200 years of Western dominance,” he added.

Dr Wee said that the Islamic civilisation was remarkable.

“As are the Chinese and Indian civilisations, which all three make up Malaysia. As Malaysians, we are fortunate to live in a country with a multicultural society.

“Our diversity is unique and a heritage that must be preserved,” he said.

Dr Wee said visiting the museum was a beneficial experience for understanding Malaysia’s society, two-thirds of which is composed of Muslims.

“We, as Malaysians, should deepen our understanding of the art and historical origins of this civilisation and others.

“As Malaysians are made up of multiple races, this is our advantage and our strength.

“We should avoid any conflict, as it is important for Malaysians to understand each other,” he said.
