(Reuters) – The University of Southern California basketball team was hit with a scare on Monday when 18-year-old Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during practice. However, according to a statement from a family spokesperson, Bronny is now in stable condition and is no longer in intensive care.
Medical staff were on hand when the incident occurred and provided immediate treatment before transporting Bronny to a hospital. The spokesperson did not provide further details about the incident or where it took place. Both the family spokesperson and James’ agent were unavailable for comment.
ESPN reported that the family spokesperson stated, “We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”
Despite the scare, Bronny remains a highly regarded freshman guard for the Trojans, having earned the distinction of being named a McDonald’s All-American during his senior year of high school.
LeBron James, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers and is widely regarded as one of the best basketball players in history, has previously expressed his desire to one day play alongside his son in the NBA before retiring.
