The MCA president, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, stated that National Day is a cause for celebration for all Malaysians, regardless of their location or chosen tagline. He emphasized that the most significant aspect is how national unity is appreciated and how Merdeka is made more meaningful to all Malaysians. Expressing his views on Perikatan Nasional’s proposal for a different National Day theme and logo in the four states under its control, Dr Wee mentioned that such rhetoric has occurred in the past and asserted that the spirit of togetherness is of utmost importance.
Dr Wee emphasized that individuals have the freedom to celebrate National Day in their own unique ways, whether it is in kampungs or cafes. He stressed the necessity for politicians from both sides to work together, as they share the same national anthem and love for the country. Dr Wee made these remarks at the “Malaysiaku Jiwaku” Merdeka celebration, which took place at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) main campus in Setapak on Tuesday (Aug 22) morning.
