According to Dr Akmal Saleh, the viral letter that was supposedly issued by Umno Youth, calling for an emergency meeting to discuss the party’s exit from the unity government, is not genuine. The Umno Youth chief stated that he did not authorize such a letter and was made aware of its falsity on Saturday morning by a close friend.
He expressed his displeasure with engagement in “cheap politics,” especially during a time when the East Coast is dealing with the hardship caused by floods. He emphasized that the priority should be on aiding the flood victims rather than spreading unfounded accusations that are of no benefit to anyone.
Furthermore, he cautioned against causing the public to lose faith in politicians, urging everyone to be mindful of their actions.
The fraudulent letter purportedly called for Umno Youth to convene the party’s supreme council to discuss its departure from the unity government. This development occurs in the context of DAP’s Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo’s suggestion to involve non-Muslims in the special committee evaluating the proposal to strengthen the Syariah Court’s role.
Several political parties, including PAS, Umno and Bersatu, criticized Ngeh’s proposal to include non-Muslim constitutional experts in the special committee to review Syariah law in the country, deeming it as ‘provocative’.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah also weighed in on the issue on Friday, stating that non-Muslims should respect and refrain from meddling in matters related to Islamic affairs.
