DUNGUN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the losses caused by floods during the Northeast Monsoon in Malaysia are estimated to be around RM1 billion. The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) is currently evaluating the exact extent of the damage resulting from the flood disaster.
During the Santunan Kasih Ramadan programme at Masjid Sultan Mahmud in Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah, Ahmad Zahid provided this estimate to the media. Alongside him were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and Terengganu Tengah Development Authority (Ketengah) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
In his capacity as Rural and Regional Development Minister, Ahmad Zahid mentioned that the losses include damage to various infrastructure, such as roads. He highlighted that the repairs for federal roads are being handled by the Public Works Department, while the Ministry of Rural Development is overseeing repairs for rural roads.
As the assessment of the flood damage is ongoing, more details will be released to the public once Nadma completes its evaluation.
