A man in his 60s who is a company director has been apprehended by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Melaka on suspicions of offering bribes to civil servants in various government departments. The alleged bribes were given in exchange for the procurement of projects amounting to RM639,104.
Melaka MACC Director Mohd Shahril Che Saad stated that the suspect was taken into custody when he arrived at the MACC office on Monday to aid in the ongoing investigation. The suspect is accused of paying thousands of ringgit in bribes to ensure the success of obtaining supply projects between 2021 and 2023.
According to Shahril, the MACC is considering the possibility of summoning civil servants from different departments to aid in the further investigation of the case. He emphasized the need to eliminate the chain of bribery cartels involved with government departments to prevent the continued monopoly of supply projects in Melaka.
Shahril added that the case is being probed under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009 and that the suspect will be brought to court for a remand order the following day.
Shahril also highlighted the importance of eradicating the practice of bribery to ensure fair competition and opportunities for all parties involved in procurement processes with government departments.
He also urged the public to continue providing information and cooperation to the MACC to help combat corruption and malpractice in various sectors of society.
The MACC has been working tirelessly to crack down on corruption in the country and to uphold justice and integrity in all areas of governance. The arrest of the company director demonstrates their commitment to holding individuals accountable for corrupt practices.
The move sends a clear message that corrupt behavior will not be tolerated and that those who engage in such activities will face the consequences of their actions.
