KOTA KINABALU: A school clerk has been detained by graft busters for using her position to secure two contracts worth some RM40,000 for herself and a company linked to her husband in Sabah’s east coast Tawau district.

According to a source, the suspect, in her 50s, had allegedly abused her position as an administrative assistant to invite a so-called company to provide a rental service for photocopy and copy printer machines worth some RM20,000 in 2020.

“However, it was the suspect who was doing the job,” said the source, when contacted on Wednesday (June 19).

“In the same year, the suspect also used her position to appoint a company linked to her husband for works involving the installation of sinks and pipes, among others, a contract worth some RM20,000,” the source added.

The suspect was detained when she went to provide her statement at the Tawau Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office at 11am today.

It was learned that the suspect will be charged at the Special Corruption Court in Tawau on Thursday (June 20).

When contacted, Sabah MACC chief Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect would be charged under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
