KUALA LUMPUR: Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal says he was not given the chance to defend himself in the House, adding that the suspension will see him miss out on Budget 2025 debates when the Dewan Rakyat sits in October.

The Machang MP described his six-month suspension from Parliament as a “dark spot” in Malaysia’s parliamentary democracy.

“God willing, my colleagues will continue speaking up for the people in this honourable house.

“Machang will take a step back for now. See you next year,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (July 18).

The Bersatu Youth chief was slapped with a six-month suspension earlier Thursday for referencing a poison pen letter during debates on the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) on July 1.

The suspension motion was tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and put to a bloc vote.

110 MPs voted in favour while 63 opposed.

“Machang raised a poison pen letter whose author and contents are unverified.

“This has tarnished the reputation of the alleged individual and also officers from government agencies through such baseless allegations,” she said when tabling the motion.

The letter had allegedly revealed the “mastermind” behind the privatisation of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) as an Employees Provident Fund (EPF) employee, alongside the individual’s supposed ill-treatment of colleagues.
