PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has visited Barisan National’s election machinery ahead of the Mahkota by-election to ensure all is well.

Showing his support for Barisan candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, the MCA president took the time to visit nearby polling stations and the coalition’s operations centre.

“Visited Kg Melayu 2 polling station which is being taken care of by Barisan Ayer Hitam and had a chance encounter with Umno Women and Family Affairs Council (Hawa) chairman Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

“I also met former national unity minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique, former Johor state assembly deputy speaker and Semarang assemblyman Datuk Samsolbari Jamali.

“I then visited the Barisan-MCA Operations Centre for the Kg Melayu Timor 2 polling station where staff and volunteers distributed handbills and conducted house-to-house visits,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Sept 19).

He also shared pictures of him overseeing the operations as he was joined by Wanita MCA national chairman Datuk Wong You Fong, Tenang assemblyman Haslinda Salleh and other MCA leaders.

He had previously called Syed Hussien a “complete package” voters are looking for due to his humble character and ability to mix well with all communities regardless of race.

The Mahkota seat became vacant following the death of its assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.

Syed Hussien, who also serves as the Kluang Umno Youth chief, is looking to retain the seat for Barisan, while Perikatan Nasional is fielding Kluang Bersatu committee member Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.
