KLUANG: It was a hectic yet meaningful day for newlyweds Nurarissa Shazni Kamal and Mohammad Hafizzudin Anaffiah as they rushed between their wedding and polling centres.
Nurarissa, 27, who met her husband when they were both still in school, said having their wedding day coincide with the Mahkota by-election makes the day even more special and unforgettable.
“We set the wedding date a long time ago, not expecting it to fall on the same day as the election.
“When the election date was announced, my husband even joked that we might go ‘viral’ because of the coincidence.
“Looks like the joke ended up becoming a reality,” she told the press after casting her vote at Sekolah Agama Gunung Lambak here.
The bride, who wore a white dress, said having a wedding on election day was no excuse to skip voting.
“For me, voting is a must. It is a duty that we should fulfil.
“Whether or not I’m getting married today, I would still come out to vote,” she said.
She said she rushed to the polling centre after her ‘bersanding’ ceremony at 3pm and then had an outdoor photoshoot.
Echoing a similar sentiment was her husband, Mohammad Hafizzudin, 27, who voted at SK Kampung Tengah before accompanying his wife to vote.
“It was unexpected as we decided on the date in March, but it was indeed a very special coincidence for us.
“Although everyone was busy with the election, we still had a lot of people attending our wedding,” he said.
He added that some of those attending also did not miss out on casting their votes.
