According to the chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais), Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, the target for zakat contributions this year is RM1.35 billion. This is based on the Selangor Zakat Board’s (LZS) outstanding performance in 2023.

Abdul Aziz mentioned that zakat collection in the state exceeded RM791 million as of November 2023, showing a three per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Last year, LZS made history by collecting a record-high zakat of RM1.07 billion and distributing RM1.05 billion to the asnaf group.

He expressed his hope for LZS to expand its zakat distribution to Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) through amil for educational development during the launch of MAIS’ Anti-Corruption Plan on January 17.

Abdul Aziz also noted that the Selangor Wakaf Corporation collected RM75.498 million in wakaf funds last year, achieving 98% of its target.

Additionally, Mais has identified five key areas and 39 initiatives to ensure the success of its anti-corruption plan, including administrative management, procurement, projects, Distribution and Baitulmal donations. – Bernama
