Malaysia and China are prepared to cooperate and exchange knowledge in addressing global terrorism, according to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
During a meeting with China’s State Councillor and Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong, the Deputy Prime Minister discussed the strengthening of ties between the two countries in addressing security challenges both in Asia and worldwide. The meeting, which lasted over an hour, took place at Sri Satria in Putrajaya on Friday (Nov 3) as part of Wang’s three-day working visit to Malaysia.
Ahmad Zahid expressed Malaysia’s support for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and its confidence in the positive outcomes and benefits it will bring to projects under the BRI.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his hope to visit China early next year, with an invitation from President Xi Jinping and Wang.
In addition, 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Malaysia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and the two countries will commemorate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2024.
On another note, Ahmad Zahid addressed the decision by the United States House of Representatives to pass a bill imposing restrictions on foreign entities supporting Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement. He emphasized Malaysia’s position and called for respect towards the independence and sovereignty of each country.
On November 1, the US House of Representatives approved the Hamas International Financing Prevention Act, enabling sanctions against supporters of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad Movement. – Bernama
