KUALA LUMPUR: The national-level Malaysia Day celebrations this year will take place at Unity Stadium in Kuching, Sarawak on the evening of September 16, according to the publicity and media committee. The committee announced this on Friday, September 1. It added that Sarawak was given the honor of organizing the festivities as per the Cabinet’s decision on June 24, 2020, which stipulated that Malaysia Day celebrations would rotate between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsula Malaysia.
This year’s celebrations will begin with a pre-show event at 7:00 pm and will officially commence at 8:30 pm with the arrival of acting Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak Tan Sri Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, accompanied by other guests. These guests will include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, as well as Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and wife Datin Seri Juliah Salang.
The Malaysia Day celebrations will adopt the same theme as National Day, which is “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” (Civilized Malaysia: Determination for Unity Fulfills Hope). However, the slogan for the celebration will be the Iban phrase “Segulai Sejalai” or “Walking Hand-in-Hand,” symbolizing the unity and strong spirit of cooperation among the diverse peoples of the country in realizing the vision of Malaysia Madani, stated the committee.
The highlights of the festivities include a special signing ceremony of the Malaysia Day Special Book, a Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy parade, and a Malaysia Day concert. The celebrations will be broadcast live by RTM, and subsequent broadcasts will be available on major stations such as TV3, Astro AWANI, TV AlHijrah, BERNAMA TV, TV Sarawak (TVS), and SUKE TV. – Bernama
