ISLAMABAD: Following a successful bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia has agreed in principle to import 100,000 metric tonnes of halal meat and Basmati rice from Pakistan.

Anwar, who arrived in Islamabad last night for a three-day state visit to Pakistan, described his visit to the South Asian country as “very meaningful” personally.

“This is a very meaningful visit to Pakistan. We (Malaysia and Pakistan delegation) discussed various issues concerning both countries from economic zones, issues of trade and markets, and others,” he said during the joint press conference with Shehbaz Sharif after the bilateral meeting.

He expressed confidence that Pakistan’s halal meat exporters would have no problem adhering to Malaysia’s stringent halal regulations in order to maintain the quality of their halal meat products.
