KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is planning to visit every Asean member country before the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) conference next year, says Tan Sri Johari Abdul (pic).
The Dewan Rakyat Speaker who is also the 46th AIPA president said plans are currently being drafted to arrange the official visits.
“We are adopting the approach, if possible, we want to visit all neighbouring countries which are Asean members before the conference takes place in September next year.
“I will do my best to visit all member countries including for me to visit all the speakers of the Asean parliaments.
“The plan is being drawn up, and the visits are expected to be held after the Dewan Rakyat sitting which ends on Dec 12,” he said at a press conference in Parliament here, today.
Johari who assumed the AIPA presidency on Oct 21, also expressed hope the visits would further strengthen Malaysia’s diplomatic ties with the member countries.
