Penang-born Tan Hock Eng, the president and CEO of semiconductor company Broadcom, has been elected as a new member of the Meta board of directors. He previously held management positions with PepsiCo and General Motors, served as the vice president of finance with Commodore International, and acted as managing director of Pacven Investment and board chairman of Integrated Device Technology.
Tan stated in a press release from Meta that he is pleased to join the board and contribute to achieving the company’s vision. He sees Meta playing an important role in the next generation of computing and looks forward to working with the team on its technology and business journey.
Another new member of the Meta board of directors is John Arnold, co-founder of philanthropic fund Arnold Ventures, with a background in the energy industry. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed that these additions will help the company achieve its long term objectives, particularly in the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and energy infrastructure.
Zuckerberg mentioned that Tan’s expertise in silicon and Arnold’s background in finance and energy will be critical as Meta builds out the large-scale infrastructure to train and deploy future AI models.
This announcement comes after news that Meta would be deploying custom in-house chips as part of its artificial intelligence (AI) push.
