According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s unwavering support for Palestine will not have any negative impact on the country’s economy or foreign investments.

Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, emphasized that despite taking a strong stance on Palestine, the nation succeeded in securing a total of RM63.02bil in proposed investments from the US.

He pointed out that this investment primarily came from technology giants such as Google, Enovix, Microsoft, and TikTok, following the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec 2023) summit.

“Based on the information we received during our private meetings, I can assure you that our trade relations have not been negatively impacted at all,” said Anwar.

He also noted that these companies are aware of Malaysia’s position and are attentive to the statements released by the government. Anwar mentioned that many companies, including Muslim companies in the US, based in the Bay area, are aware of Malaysia’s stance.

“I have instructed the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) to facilitate the participation of these companies, including those seeking to expand their operations or relocate to Malaysia,” Anwar stated.

He made these remarks in response to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) during the Prime Minister’s Question Time on Tuesday (Nov 21).

Aminolhuda was seeking information about the benefits gained by the country from the 30th Apec meeting, which was attended by the Prime Minister in the United States recently.

Anwar also highlighted that the government maximized every opportunity during Apec through the Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry.

“We had meetings with several major US investors, and it is evident that they continue to prioritize us due to our stable political environment, clear economic policies, and the streamlined approval process overseen by Mida,” Anwar concluded.
