JEMPOL: A 20-year-old man accused of stabbing his mother has been ordered by the Magistrate’s court in Bahau to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
Magistrate Norshazwani Ishak made the order following an application by deputy public prosecutor Farahidah Zool Beri.
“The prosecution has been made to understand that the accused suffers from mild depression.
“We hereby ask the court to have the accused referred to a hospital for a mental evaluation before a confession is recorded,” she said.
The accused was to face a charge of committing the alleged crime against his 48-year-old mother at a house in Felda Raja Alias 1, Bandar Seri Jempol around 12.50pm on June 22.
He faces a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or any two of such punishments, upon conviction.
Norshazwani then ordered the accused to be sent to Hospital Permai in Johor to undergo observation and evaluation for one month.
The court then fixed Aug 2 for remention.
Prior to this, Jempol police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the accused, who is the second of four siblings, had gone together with the victim’s father to visit her at her house.
After the victim’s father had stepped out of the house, an argument broke out between the suspect and the victim.
The suspect then dashed out of the house and drove away with the victim’s father’s car.
When the victim’s father went back into the house, he saw her bleeding with a wound on her back.
The victim was rushed to hospital and doctors confirmed she had sustained a wound 2.5cm deep.
Police detained the suspect at a house in Taman Rasa Sayang Cheras in Kajang, Selangor on June 25.
