A tragic incident unfolded in Kampung Bharu, near Manjung, as a 28-year-old man allegedly set his wife on fire, resulting in her untimely death. The 33-year-old woman lost her life on Monday (July 10) following a heated disagreement between the couple and her family over their accusations of the man being a drug user, according to Manjung district police chief, ACP Mohamed Nordin Abdullah. The suspect was swiftly apprehended by the authorities at a restaurant near Lumut later that evening.
In a statement, ACP Mohamed Nordin Abdullah stated, “The police received a distress call from the suspect’s younger brother, alerting them that the suspect had set his wife on fire. The victim was immediately rushed to Seri Manjung Hospital for treatment, but tragically succumbed to her injuries today (July 12).”
Following the arrest of the suspect on Monday, he was brought before the Manjung Magistrate’s Court today. The court granted a seven-day remand order to facilitate ongoing police investigations into the incident.
