In Kampung Olak, Bukit Pasir, a 36-year-old man named Halit Wahot tragically drowned while testing out his new boat in Sungai Belemang.
The incident took place on Saturday, November 18th at 5:32pm, as confirmed by Muar Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Rafidah Aziz.
Rafidah Aziz stated that the victim fell into the river approximately 2.7km from the Kampung Olak jetty. A total of 34 firemen were deployed, including seven members from the water rescue unit. Additionally, ten fishermen and personnel from the police, Civil Defence Force, and Rela also participated in the search operation.
The search was conducted within a 3km radius from where the victim reportedly fell into the river. However, the operation was halted at 8pm the following day, as it was too dangerous to deploy dive teams due to the presence of crocodiles in the 2.7m-deep river.
On Monday, November 20th, the department received a phone call from the public informing them that the body of the victim had been found at 7:37am near Jeti Rahman, Kampung Olak. The victim was found 5km from where he fell into the river.
Rafidah Aziz mentioned that the case has been handed over to the police for further action. Meanwhile, Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Talib confirmed the case and stated that investigations were ongoing.
