GEORGE TOWN: A man was rescued by fisherman after falling off the Penang Bridge into the sea on Tuesday (Jan 23).
Penang Fire and Rescue Department said the victim, in his 20s, was believed to have left his motorcycle at KM2.2 of the mainland-bound road before he fell.
“The victim was saved by a group of fishermen who happened to be nearby,” it said in a statement.
It said firemen from the Prai fire station were dispatched to the scene after being informed of the incident by the public.
“Two firemen descended (from the bridge) using a rope to rescue the victim and calm him down,” the statement read, adding that the victim was brought to Batu Uban Jetty on a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency boat before being handed over to police for further action.
The operation ended at noon.
