KOTA KINABALU: City police are investigating a case where a self-employed man has been accused of going around hypnotising people for personal gains.
Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the 33-year-old man had lodged a police report after seeing a WhatsApp message warning the public about him.
The message claimed that a man was using hypnosis to manipulate people while posing as a vendor in front of a bank in Papar.
The widely shared message included the man’s photo and urged caution.
Following this, the man lodged a report to clear his name and ensure his continued business operations.
The man also filed the report for his own safety.
ACP Kasim said police are investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which addresses the improper use of network facilities or services.
The section criminalises the online spread of comments deemed obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person.
