IPOH: A suspect detained for his alleged offensive online comments about policemen killed in the Ulu Tiram police station attack has been further remanded by police.

In a brief statement to the media, Tapah OCPD Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi said the 25-year-old man would be remanded another two days until Tuesday (Sept 10) to aid investigation into his comments posted on Facebook.

The man was arrested in Masai, Johor, at 8pm last Thursday (Sept 5) following a report lodged by the family of Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, one of the policemen killed in the incident.

The man had been on remand for four days until today for investigation under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.

Separately, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said investigations are still ongoing and the case would be referred to the public prosecutor’s office for further action once it is done.

“We will refer the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutors for the next course of action,” he said at a press conference after the monthly gathering at the state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (Sept 9).

He advised netizens to be cautious when making comments by being mindful of sensitivities and avoiding making baseless accusations.

“Let us be responsible and act with integrity as social media users,” he said.

During the incident at the Ulu Tiram police station on May 17, Ahmad Azza Fahmi, 22, and Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed.
