A Louisiana man killed a neighbour in an argument over a phone charger, officials said. Now he’s been sentenced to life in prison.

District Judge Chris Victory ordered the life sentence on Wednesday, Sept 4, to be served at hard labour without probation, parole or suspension of sentence, the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office told McClatchy News.

Joshua Parks was found guilty in August on charges of second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in December 2020, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.

McClatchy News reached out to his attorney on Sept 5 but did not immediately receive a response.

Parks was at his Shreveport house when his neighbour Edward Lattin arrived to grab a phone charger, prosecutors said.

Lattin got in an argument with Parks’ girlfriend while he was there, according to the release.

Lattin then walked back to his house and told his girlfriend about the dispute, officials said. Shortly after, he went back outside, and the argument between Lattin and Parks’ girlfriend continued, prosecutors said.

It escalated when Parks came outside and fired multiple shots at Lattin, officials said.

Parks shot Lattin several more times after he had fallen to the ground, then fled the scene, according to prosecutors.

Officials said Lattin was shot eight times. He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health where he died, KTBS reported.

According to the release, Parks turned himself in to the Caddo Correctional Center soon after. His shoes, still bloody, had Lattin’s DNA on them, officials said. – The Charlotte Observer/Tribune News Service
