JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) has put a halt on new applications for business licences related to reflexology centres and spas, as well as traditional massage and treatment centres. Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman announced that the decision went into effect on Thursday (Feb 1).
He explained during a press conference after chairing the MBJB full council meeting in Johor Baru that the freeze specifically applies to these “high-risk and sensitive businesses” located in shophouses, hotel buildings, and business or shopping complexes.
However, he clarified that the freeze does not apply to applications for adding lots, changing company owner or company names, and annual licence renewals.
“Applications submitted up to Wednesday (Jan 31) will receive a ‘defer with revision’ status until new application guidelines are announced,” Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said. He also stated that the rationale behind the freeze is to review and rebrand these business activities to be in line with developed countries.
He added that a new guideline or policy compatible with MBJB’s image will be outlined, and the freeze will allow time for these businesses to adjust accordingly.
