Plans are in place to organize a grand Deepavali carnival next year in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024), according to Khoo Poay Tiong.
The Kota Melaka MP has expressed his intention to propose the event as a tourist attraction to the Federal Government stakeholders.
Khoo made this announcement after attending prayers at the Sri Poyatha Vinayagar Moorthi temple, the oldest functioning Hindu temple in the country, located on Jalan Tukang Emas in Melaka on Saturday (Nov 4).
During his visit, Khoo provided assistance in securing parking bays for the temple. Additionally, he allocated funds to support the temple celebrations during the Festival of Lights.
Khoo believes that Deepavali is one of the largest festivals in the region and has the potential to attract a significant crowd.
“We can witness the festivities and, at the same time, promote the diversity of the country,” he mentioned.
“Let’s celebrate Deepavali as part of our festivity and come together to ignite our spirit of harmony, filled with merriment,” he added.
