The unveiling of Menara Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur is a representation of Malaysia’s journey to independence and the successful creation of a diverse and multicultural nation, according to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. The new landmark symbolizes the celebration of the country’s diversity as an independent nation, reflecting the progress and success Malaysia has achieved over time. His Majesty expressed pride in Malaysia’s continuous success as evidenced by Menara Merdeka 118 during the opening ceremony on Jan 10.

Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah also attended the historic event where Al-Sultan Abdullah officially opened the Al-Sultan Abdullah Mosque, the main mosque at the Menara Merdeka 118 complex, expressing gratitude for it being named after him. His Majesty and Raja Permaisuri Agong appreciated the gesture, considering it a valuable reminder and gift.

In addition to praising the construction of Menara Merdeka 118, Al-Sultan Abdullah also commended Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) and their efforts to strengthen the country’s economy as a major national investment institution. His Majesty expressed confidence in PNB’s continued progress and emphasized the importance of economic prosperity and peace for Malaysia.

Owned by PNB through its wholly-owned subsidiary, PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd, Menara Merdeka 118 stands at a height of 678.9m with 118 floors, making it the second tallest tower in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. His Majesty also acknowledged PNB’s restoration of the Merdeka Stadium to its original form in 1957, noting the symbolic significance of the new landmark standing in front of the historic stadium.
