In Mexico City, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador gave a speech on Constitution Day and presented a series of constitutional reforms on Monday.
He stated, “The reforms that I propose seek to establish constitutional rights and strengthen ideals and principles related to humanism, justice, honesty, austerity and democracy.”
The proposed reforms include providing scholarships to impoverished youth, banning fracking and open-pit mining, revising previous pension reforms, restricting water concessions in areas with water shortages, reducing spending on political campaigns, reducing the number of lawmakers in the Lower House of Congress and Senate, and implementing direct elections for judges.
President Lopez Obrador announced that the proposed reforms would be delivered to the Lower House of Congress for discussion later on Monday.
