PETALING JAYA: Mirabel Ting continued to impress in her second year at Florida State University by finishing in a tie for eighth place at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in the United States.
Completing the tournament with a two-over 74, Mirabel achieved a three-round total of one-over 217 at the legendary Augusta National Golf Club course.
The 18-year-old made history as the first Malaysian to qualify for the final after shooting rounds of 69 and 74 in her debut appearance at Augusta National.
“Thank you Augusta National. It’s been a childhood dream to compete in this prestigious event.
“Finishing in the top 10 was a great experience and I have gained valuable lessons from this tournament,” said Mirabel.
She joins a select group of five Malaysians who have qualified for this event, including Loy Hee Ying and Alyaa Abdulghany in 2019, with the latter returning last year.
Ashley Lau took part in the 2022 edition and Jeneath Wong competed in the previous year, but none of them managed to make the cut until Mirabel’s successful appearance this year.
