A man named Jasbidin Balon, 40, who had disappeared in the jungle behind his house in Sabah’s northern Kota Marudu district was found hiding further in after realizing a search team was looking for him.
The search and rescue workers spotted him near a pond in Kampung Delima Darat Pitas on Tuesday (Dec 26), about an hour after starting the search.
Jasbidin allegedly fell into depression after the death of his father, prompting the rescue mission involving the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Civil Defence Force, and villagers.
The Fire Department’s search in the jungle near and around the man’s house led to the sighting of Jasbidin by the pond at 1.10pm. However, he ran into the woods and disappeared.
The search team decided to adjourn the mission at 4pm and continue the next day, as Jasbidin had not been found. Updates will be provided from time to time, according to the Fire Department spokesman.
Kota Marudu police had notified the department of Jasbidin’s disappearance at 8:21am on Tuesday, following a report from his wife at 10am on Saturday (Dec 24).
Before leaving the house, Jasbidin took a meat cleaver with him and ventured into the jungle behind their home, with his son attempting to follow him without success, the spokesman added.
