The investigation into the emergency water landing involving a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) helicopter off Kuala Selangor will be conducted internally, according to Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer Capt Datuk Norazman Mahmud. He stated that the MMEA will handle the investigation into the incident.
CAAM confirmed that a helicopter, model AW139 with registration number M72-01, operated by the MMEA, landed in the water near Pulau Angsa in Selangor on Tuesday (March 5). The aircraft departed from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 9.10am for a training mission,” he said in a statement. There was no distress call received, he added.
The last contact between the helicopter and air traffic control was at 9.20am. The Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre at Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre was immediately activated to determine the location of the helicopter,” he said.
All four survivors were rescued by a rescue helicopter and landed at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport at 10.58am.
Meanwhile, the MMEA confirmed that the downed chopper had made an emergency landing during an exercise. Further details regarding the incident have not been disclosed at this time.
