The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) has called for the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian civilians trapped in Gaza. Suhakam is urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and highlight the potential humanitarian catastrophe if access to water and food is not provided.
Suhakam strongly advocates for the protection and preservation of human dignity and rights for every individual, regardless of race, religion, or nationality, even during times of conflict. The Commission condemns the violence that has resulted in loss of life and has instilled fear and despair among innocent civilians in the region.
Furthermore, the destruction of public infrastructure in Gaza, including residential buildings and health facilities, is considered to be serious violations of international laws and customs applicable in armed conflict.
In a press release issued on Wednesday (Oct 11), the Commission emphasizes the need for the international community to address the root causes of the humanitarian tragedy promptly and find lasting solutions that will lead to peace.
Suhakam also expresses its continued support for all efforts aimed at ensuring Palestinians can live peacefully within their internationally recognized borders as specified by United Nations resolutions recognizing the State of Palestine.
