During the Selangor state assembly sitting, chaos erupted following a royal rebuke that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang received from Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The chaos was ignited by Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron, who called out Selangor PAS commissioner and Paya Jaras assemblyman Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri to explain the matter to the house.
Sultan Sharafuddin’s private secretary Datuk Muhamad Munir Bani had sent Dr Ab Halim a letter in which Abdul Hadi was admonished by the Ruler.
Dr Ab Halim chose not to discuss the issue and referred to Abdul Hadi for further clarification.
Amanah’s Danial Al-Rashid then highlighted that Dr Ab Halim and Ijok assemblyman Jefri Mejan, both from PAS, had not mentioned the matter during their earlier speaking turns.
“The letter stated that Abdul Hadi’s statement was not only confusing but could also potentially sow discord among Muslims, especially the Malays,” said Danial Al-Rashid.
Dr Ab Halim’s Perikatan Nasional colleagues defended him, asserting that the letter was not pertinent to the day’s proceedings and should not be raised.
The Opposition attempted to persuade Danial Al-Rashid to retract his statements, but their requests were denied by Deputy Speaker Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin.
This led to Bersatu’s Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin confronting Mohd Kamri, questioning what the response would be if he were to make a similar claim against DAP.
Subsequently, several Opposition members began shouting “DAP communist” in response to Dr Afif’s remark.
Dr Afif emphasized that Sultan Sharafuddin’s letter should not be brought up during the proceedings.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Azmin Ali advised Mohd Kamri to instruct assemblymen to refrain from using the sitting to launch attacks against others.
On the sidelines of the state assembly sitting, Dr Ab Halim declined to comment further on the issue.
