In a Special Integrated Operation conducted on the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) on Saturday night, a total of 455 vehicles were checked and 166 summonses were issued, according to a statement by the Penang Road Transport Department (RTD) on Sunday. The joint operation, which involved the Environment Department and the state’s National Anti-Drug Agency, took place from 10pm to 2am.

Out of the 455 vehicles inspected during the operation, actions were taken against 106 vehicles, resulting in the issuance of 166 summonses for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 and its regulations. The Environment Department also issued three inspection instruction notices and two compounds, as stated in the press release.

The primary objective of the operation was to instill discipline among vehicle owners and road users, ensuring adherence to existing rules and laws while maintaining safety for all road users. The statement emphasized the importance of continuous enforcement to uphold road user safety and enhance the Perception Of Being Caught (POBC) among violators.

Future enforcement activities will be conducted periodically to ensure the safety of road users and promote compliance with traffic laws. The concerted efforts of the RTD, Environment Department, and National Anti-Drug Agency are aimed at creating a safer road environment for all individuals who utilize the Butterworth Outer Ring Road.

Authorities are committed to taking decisive action against errant drivers and enhancing public awareness of the importance of following road regulations. The collaborative approach in conducting operations like the one on the BORR highlights the government’s dedication to creating a culture of accountability and responsibility on the roads.

By fostering a culture of compliance and enforcement, authorities aim to reduce road accidents and enhance overall road safety standards.

Efforts to maintain order and safety on the roads will continue unabated, with a focus on educating the public, enforcing regulations, and cracking down on traffic violations. The successful operation on the BORR serves as a testament to the concerted efforts of various agencies in upholding road safety measures and promoting responsible driving habits among motorists.
