PUTRAJAYA: A total of 15,602 sex toys, with a total value of RM540,000, were seized during the Ops Cetak 1.0, says Home Ministry enforcement and internal division secretary Nik Yusaimi Yussof.
The sex toys were among 19,924 illegal items and publications seized by the ministry through its Enforcement and Control Division, which launched Ops Cetak 1.0 nationwide from June 1 to June 14, 2024.
The materials seized are estimated to be worth RM1.2mil in total.
“These sex toys were seized in Penang, Selangor, Johor, and Kedah and suspected to be imported from China and Japan,” he said.
Nik Yusaimi said that during the ops, seven Malaysians, comprising five men and two women, were detained over the sex toys.
He said these sex toys are feared to have a negative impact on society, especially the youth, which can ultimately affect their psychology and harm the morality of future generations.
“Any party involved in the activities of possessing, selling, importing, or distributing sex toys is committing an offence and may be subject to legal action.
“This also includes activities related to producing, displaying, renting, storing, possessing, advertising, offering, or delivering sex toys.
“This must be stopped immediately by those involved to prevent harmful effects on society,” he told reporters during the Ops Cetak press conference Wednesday (July 3).
Ops Cetak involved the seizure of various types of publications that violated provisions under the Section 3(4) and 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (AMCP 1984) related to offences of using printing machines without a valid licence and possession or sale of undesirable publications, such as books, magazines, clothing, accessories, sex toys, and printing machines.
All these publication materials were found to be contrary to the moral and socio-cultural values of society in this country as stated in Section 7(1) AMCP 1984.
The sale and distribution of these materials have been detected to be increasing online and openly sold at business premises.
