A recent study conducted by the UK’s telecoms regulator revealed that approximately 13.8 million adults, or a third of UK Internet users, accessed pornographic content in May 2023. Astonishingly, many of these users accessed such content during their working hours.
According to the Online Nation report from Ofcom, there are 10.1 million men among the UK pornography consumers, accounting for 73% of visitors to these sites, while women make up the other 27%. It’s not surprising that there are more male consumers of pornographic content, but the times of day they access these sites is more unexpected.
The study found that a higher proportion of adults visit porn sites during working hours than any other time of the day, with 21% of visits occurring between 9am and 5.30pm. This is compared to 18% of visits at night (midnight to 9am) and 17% in the late evening (8pm to midnight).
More visitors during the day, more time spent online at night
Interestingly, although more Britons log on to these sites during the day, they actually spend more time online at night, with an average of 59 minutes online during the night in May 2023, compared with 55 minutes during the day.
Pornhub is the most popular pornographic content site for UK adults, and the second-biggest market for the site in terms of daily traffic was the UK, behind the US, according to the study. The platform is particularly popular among younger people, with 30% of 18-34 year-olds visiting the site in May 2023, compared with only 10% of those over 44. Among the 30% of 18-34 year-olds, 40% are men and 20% are women.
The study also revealed that Pornhub was the most popular pornography service, reaching 18% of adults in May 2023, ahead of Chaturbate (9%) and XVideos (8%). Additionally, 19% of UK online adults visited one of the four services owned by Pornhub’s parent organization Aylo (formerly MindGeek) in May 2023, including YouPorn, Redtube, and Brazzersnetwork.
British Internet users spent an average of an hour and 56 minutes watching pornographic content on these sites during May 2023. However, although Pornhub was the most visited site for pornographic content, it ranked seventh in terms of average time spent per visitor, with an average of 52 minutes spent on the site in May 2023. – AFP Relaxnews
