IPOH: More young adults are expected to apply for government jobs following the Prime Minister’s announcement of increased salaries, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus (pic).
The Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman said the announcement would motivate them to apply for government positions.
“They know the new rates and can see the increase.
“What’s important is the job security in the public sector,” he said after visiting the SPA@Perak Open Day at the Ipoh Convention Centre on Saturday (Aug 17).
“I expect more applications, and we will have data in the first quarter of next year to get a clearer picture,” he said, adding that the SPA receives hundreds of thousands of job applications each year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Friday a 15% pay raise for officers in the implementing, management and professional groups, and a 7% increase for officers in top management and professional roles.
The increment will be implemented in two phases, the first in December this year and the second in January 2026.
Ahmad Jailani said the PSC is prepared to receive more applications.
He noted that the PSC has a system to receive and vet job applications.
“We will enhance our methods to be more efficient as requested by the Prime Minister to increase productivity over time,” he added.
Ahmad Jailani also advised people interested in applying for SPA jobs to get accurate information from valid sources to avoid being scammed.
He mentioned that PSC has websites, physical offices and social media platforms where people can get information.
“They can also call or email us. People need to be wise to prevent themselves from being scammed,” he said.
