(Reuters) – According to a statement from F1 on Thursday, the British Grand Prix has been confirmed to continue on the Formula One calendar until 2034 after a 10-year extension was agreed upon with Silverstone and the British Racing Drivers’s Club (BRDC). The announcement marks a significant milestone as it will ensure the iconic race circuit’s involvement for its ninth decade.

F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali expressed his joy at the agreement, stating, “I am delighted to announce the British Grand Prix will remain on the calendar for 10 more years with this agreement.” He also acknowledged the historical relevance of Silverstone as the venue for the first ever Formula One Grand Prix in 1950 and emphasized the global attraction of the event.

“Silverstone is an iconic venue at the heart of F1 history and as it approaches its ninth decade hosting Grand Prix, the event continues to attract fans from around the world for fantastic racing on track and the amazing fan experience off it,” Domenicali added.

The scheduled dates for the British Grand Prix in 2024 are from July 4-7, and the previous year’s race saw a record-breaking attendance of 480,000 fans over the course of the weekend.

Peter Digby, the Chairman of BRDC also expressed his satisfaction with the extension, stating, “I am delighted we have secured a 10-year extension to host the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone.” He highlighted the significance of the deal in providing a strong foundation for the further development of the venue as an international motorsport and leisure destination.
