(Reuters) – The Australian MotoGP sprint race at Phillip Island has been cancelled due to “weather conditions and forecast”, organisers announced on Sunday.
The sprint race, originally scheduled for Saturday, was rescheduled to take place on Sunday due to the predicted extreme wind and rain. This marks the first time a race has been moved since the Dutch Grand Prix in 2015.
Johann Zarco of Pramac Racing secured his first MotoGP race victory in nearly seven years in the premier class by winning the Australian Grand Prix on Saturday.
As a result of the cancellation, Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati maintains his 27-point lead in the Championship race ahead of Jorge Martin. The next race, the Thailand GP, is scheduled for October 29.
