Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim believes that Malaysia and the United States should enhance people-to-people connections through various initiatives, including volunteerism. He highlighted that there is a significant number of Malaysian students studying in the US, and Malaysia will continue to support this effort. Anwar emphasized that volunteerism can foster understanding and acceptance among citizens of both nations.
During the 11th Asean-US Summit, held in conjunction with the 43rd Asean Summit and other related summits, Anwar also expressed Malaysia’s welcome for the establishment of the Asean-US Centre.
Vice-President Kamala Harris announced the establishment of a new US-Asean centre in Washington DC during her visit to Indonesia, her first visit to the country since taking office. Harris also mentioned that the US would persistently encourage Myanmar to pursue a democratic path amidst its ongoing unrest.
Anwar reiterated the need for deeper economic cooperation between Malaysia and the US, emphasizing the importance of a trade and investment framework agreement, as well as expanded economic engagement.
