BANGI: Datuk Seri Dr Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha, the chairman of Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare), stated that the organization conducts ongoing audits to ensure that the funds raised are not misused and reach their intended recipients. He also emphasized that all contributions will be spent in accordance with government regulations.
Kamal Nasharuddin stressed the importance of adhering to guidelines and regulations set by the government when delivering aid to recipients worldwide, including in Palestine, Turkey, and Myanmar. He made these comments to reporters after the Bina Semula Gaza (BSG) high tea function in Bangi on Sunday (Feb 18).
On the previous day, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had highlighted the need for transparency in managing funds raised for charity in Malaysia. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, urged organizations to comply with regulations to ensure that funds are channeled to the intended groups.
In response to a report that three Islamic non-governmental organisation (NGO) leaders were listed in the United States Terrorist Screening Centre (TSC) by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Kamal Nasharuddin stated that MyCare is leaving the matter to the authorities. He also expressed the belief that this issue should not deter Malaysians from contributing and providing assistance to Palestinians and people in other nations.
Kamal Nasharuddin emphasized the importance of NGOs complying with regulations set by the authorities, particularly in light of the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s directive for three individuals not to be involved in Op Ihsan, which oversees the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza.
Regarding the BSG donation drive, Kamal Nasharuddin mentioned that MyCare aims to raise RM1mil for Palestinian housing and education. He also noted that MyCare had already purchased two ambulances and 500 tents to be sent to Gaza. – Bernama
